Thrash metal (often called “thrash”) is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal characterized by it’s overall aggression and fast tempo. Music wise the genre often uses fast percussive beats and low-register guitar riffs, which are overlaid with shredding-style lead guitars.
The genre appeared in the early 1980s as the fusion of double bass drumming and complex guitar stylings of the new wave British heavy metal (NWOBHM) mixed with the speed and aggression of hardcore punk.
