ヴィジュアル系 (Visual Kei) started to form in Japan in the 1980’s, creating a genre where the visual performance of the artist is just as important as the music they make. The name itself is derived from the slogan “Psychedelic Violence Crime of Visual Shock”, which was seen on the cover of X Japan’s second studio album “Blue Blood”, released in 1989.
By combining the often flamboyant and androgynous looks with their music, these artists tell the story of their works in a more theatrical way than other genres worldwide often do. The visual presentation also allows these artists to express themselves individually in their own creative style.
While ヴィジュアル系 (Visual Kei) is the “top” of the genre, there are a lot of artists who can’t be categorized in any of it’s many subgenres but still have the ヴィジュアル系 (Visual Kei) style in their works. That’s why we’ve collected them here, as well as bands from other countries that have been inspired by this unique genre.
KAMIJO will be returning to Europe this September for a short tour in order to promote his newest album “Sang”.

During his “REBOOT” European Tour 2018 砂月-SATSUKI- stopped at TomoCon in Oss on April 7 to play his show for the fans who had been waiting outside for most of the afternoon already.

It’s been a while since the last physical release of NOCTURNAL BLOODLUST (since they did release a digital only single called “Live to Die” in August of 2017), but in March of 2018 the five guys dropped a single that has been given the name “WHITEOUT”.

KILLANETH was a relatively short-lived project that gained traction within the realm of ヴィジュアル系 (Visual Kei) relatively quickly, so it came as quite a shock when the band announced their upcoming tour would be canceled as a whole and the band itself would disband on top of that.

游彩 (Yusai) was actually created by the four remaining members of the band ジン (ZIN) after vocalist 唄 (Riku) suddenly withdrew from the band without any prior notice. In order to not have to cancel any shows guitarist Luy (now 雨音 類 (Amane Rui)) dropped his position as guitarist and took the stage as a replacement
SANA currently is a solo musician, but we first saw him appear on the music scene in 2001 when he was in the band “Lusid bare inu”, but the band broke up two years later, and SANA joined the band “MASK” in June of that same year.
