SLEIPNIR // “We’re a local, handmade indie band that just recently played our first live show.”

Following the online success of their first single and music video for "Breed", SLEIPNIR played their very first live show in TIGHT ROPE 名古屋 (Nagoya). But, if you didn't see their online presence until now, you're probably wondering: "Who are they?"

We asked the group for a chat to talk about their band, music and of course how they see their future. Are you ready to meet SLEIPNIR?

摩天楼オペラ (Matenrou Opera) // AGONY: A flood of voices echoes in my head

The newest addition to 摩天楼オペラ (Matenrou Opera)’s discography is the single “AGONY”. Despite only containing two songs, the single showcases exactly what the band is good at while still bringing a new element to the table in the title song.

雪 (Yuki) took a closer look at the single and will tell you all about it as well as the accompanying MV in this review!

DEVILOOF // Devil’s Calling/Angel’s Cry: The story of love that I vow to die for

Despite being released in August of 2020 and now being considered an ‘older work’ from the group, the “Devil’s Calling/Angel’s Cry” single from DEVILOOF contains two very interesting songs that are connected to each other in a very interesting way.

In this review 雪 (Yuki) takes you deeper into the single to hopefully let you see these two songs in a different light than you might have originally.

DAMNED // 酔狂と交わる強迫的価値観 (Suikyou to Majiwaru Kyouhaku Teki Katikan): All that’s left is the determination to keep going

Recently we took you on a deep dive into DAMNED's song and music video "STAIN", which ended up being one of the more story-type of songs for the band. And since you seem to be enjoying their works as much as we are, we're now taking you on a journey through their (currently) most recent single and music video for “酔狂と交わる強迫的価値観” (Suikyou to Majiwaru Kyouhaku Teki Katikan).

Will the band live up to "STAIN", or will their obsessive values intersect with insanity?
雪 (Yuki) can't wait to tell you more about it!

JILUKA // KVLT: Open your mind for this new cult

With the 2025 World Tour “THE KVLT” in full swing, JILUKA are currently in Europe once again after two very successful tours in 2024. Since that tour they have only released one new song and music video, namely “KVLT”. And this music video was on our to do list since it came out last February already – it just took a little longer to get to it. But with the tour in full swing now, we want to draw your attention to JILUKA’s work once more.

And if you’re still on the fence on whether or not you want to join their KVLT, allow the group to convince you one more time before their live show.

DEVILOOF // Devil’s Proof: Bare your fangs and go wild

DEVILOOF released their very first full album “Devil’s Proof” in November of 2017 already, and ever since it has continuously made appearances on 雪 (Yuki)’s playlist. Sometimes in full, sometimes a stray song. With the band signing to the major label Tokuma Japan in 2023 their first release under that label was either a massive hit or a massive disappointment – depending on who you ask. And with the release of their song “因習” (Inshuu) in late January of this year, 雪 (Yuki) actually saw something that made her think of “Devil’s Proof”.

So here it is, the long, long overdue deep dive into DEVILOOF’s first album, which really showcases the combination of ヴィジュアル系 (Visual Kei) and J-Metal!

DAMNED // STAIN: A sense of emptiness brings no comfort

In September of 2024 DAMNED released the MV for “STAIN”, following the one for “Thanatosis” that came out in April of the same year. V already covered “Thanatosis” for you, so now it’s 雪 (Yuki)’s turn to cover “STAIN”!

Will this be another banger, or will it be a stain on the band’s reputation? (It definitely isn’t, don’t worry, but we couldn’t resist the pun!) 雪 (Yuki) did a deep dive into the song and will tell you all about it in this review!

ゼラ (Zera) // Uncanny Valley: Let’s keep dreaming scary dreams

After the release of the “MISSA” single in September of 2024, ゼラ (Zera) are already back to add a new single to their discography. “Uncanny Valley” was released in late February of this year, and exists out of three tracks and a music video. Does this single provide an answer to the uncanny valley-hypothesis or is the name just a placeholder?

You’ve probably already noticed that we’ve been covering ゼラ (Zera)’s works more often recently, so 雪 (Yuki) couldn’t wait to dive into “Uncanny Valley” to find every little tidbit hidden within. And of course tell you all about it! Let’s put the hypothesis to the test together!

Azavana // 灰色の海を泳ぐ蛍 (Haiiro no Umi wo Oyogu Hotaru): Can I still hope for dreams and love?

The very first single of Azavana, “灰色の海を泳ぐ蛍” (Haiiro no Umi wo Oyogu Hotaru), may be their first single, but it’s definitely not their first release overall. The group already released two mini-albums in November of 2024, but this single really caught our attention with it’s poetic title, and even more poetic lyrics. In this review 雪 (Yuki) takes a deep dive into the single, and is more than happy to tell you more about it as well!

NOCTURNAL BLOODLUST // Nail in the coffin: Burn it down until the end

A year and a half after the release of the single “Kingdom”, NOCTURNAL BLOODLUST return with the release of the digital single “Nail in the coffin” on April 4th 2025. But, is the new song really a nail in the coffin for the group, or is the name just a great target for this joke?

To find a definitive answer to that question, 雪 (Yuki) took a deep dive into the song and after some thorough research she came up with the answer for you in this review!

TRNTY D:CODE // [HELL]hound.: Tame him before daylight

Despite coming out in November of 2018, TRNTY D:CODE’s second single “[HELL]hound.” contained an interesting mix of ヴィジュアル系 (Visual Kei) and metalcore, ticking boxes for both genres left and right for the currently inactive group.

With this review 雪 (Yuki) hopes to bring an older release back to the surface, while looking at the interesting mix of both genres at the same time.

リリカ (Lyrica) // ストロベリィマァマレィド (Strawberry Marmalade): Unspeakable secrets melted my throat

“ストロベリィマァマレィド” (Strawberry Marmalade) is the fourth single in リリカ (Lyrica)’s discography, and also the second MV for the group. Much like their first single and MV “Strange Rabbit” there is a lot more than what meets the eye at first glance with this release too. And since you all enjoyed our deep dive into their first single and MV so much, we’re now coming back with the follow-up we promised back then.

In today’s review, 雪 (Yuki) discusses the story of the single and MV in more detail, but much like the previous installment in our Strange Rabbit series, please keep in mind that リリカ (Lyrica)’s work might be a bit shocking for some audiences!
